Israel-Gaza Conflict: Latest Developments

Israeli Airstrike Kills Two Palestinians in Gaza Strip

RAFAH, Gaza Strip (AP)—An apparent Israeli airstrike killed two Palestinian men in the southern Gaza Strip on Saturday, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

The airstrike, which struck a car in the city of Rafah, also injured three other Palestinians, the ministry said. The victims were identified as 25-year-old Mahmoud Abu Salah and 27-year-old Mohammed Abu 'Arar.

The Israeli military said it was looking into the incident. There was no immediate comment from the Palestinian authorities.

Context of Ongoing Conflict

The airstrike comes amid ongoing tensions between Israel and the Palestinians, following a series of deadly attacks in Israel and the occupied West Bank in recent weeks.

On October 7, Israeli forces launched a military offensive in Gaza in response to rocket attacks from the Palestinian militant group Hamas. The offensive, which lasted 11 days, killed more than 240 Palestinians and 13 Israelis.

Since the offensive ended, there have been sporadic clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants in Gaza, and a number of rocket attacks from Gaza into southern Israel.

The conflict has raised concerns about the potential for a wider escalation, and international mediators have been calling for a ceasefire.
