Slovenia and Serbia: A Historical Overview
Diplomatic Relations and Language Use
Slovenia gained independence after the Ten-Day War in 1991. Diplomatic relations between Slovenia and Serbia were established on 9 December 2000. Despite historical tensions, the majority of Serbs in Slovenia use Slovene as their language of communication, with only 4300 people declaring Serbian as their sole language of use.
Economic Ties
Serbia remains Slovenia's most important trading partner in Southeast Europe. Over 1500 Slovenian companies are registered in Serbia, making Slovenia one of the largest investors in the country. Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić highlighted this investment during a meeting with Slovenian officials.
